The Festa Major d'Hivern (winter town festival) is held in honour of St. Nicasius, on the 14th December

Over the years, the Festa Major d'Hivern has taken on a decidedly cultural, artistic and charitable tone, becoming the prelude to the Christmas period; so much so, that in recent times it has been given the name the Festes d'Hivern, thereby covering all the Christmas period activities.

The programme, which starts with the traditional vigil to St. Nicasius, offers a wide range of events planned by the Patronat Municipal de Serveis Comunitaris (Municipal Community Services Board) in conjunction with other institutions in the town.

Among the activities is the award ceremony for the Gavanenc of the Year, given by the towl's media, the procession of the Home dels Nassos on the 31st December, the great procession of the Three Wise Men on 5th January, and the Festa del Dia del Soci (Members Day Festival) for the elderly and the "No child in Gavà without a toy" campaign.
