At the same time as the town is adapting to modern times and responding to the demands of its citizens and visitors by creating new leisure facilities, the council has taken particular care in preserving its rich cultural, archaeological and architectural heritage. A clear example of this is the major undertaking involved in building the Parc Arqueològic de les Mines Prehistòriques. Once finished, it will be the most prestigious cultural centre in the town, and the only such centre in Europe.
