A Beach in Harmony with Nature
A unique sea front and dunes that are a rich source of life
Enjoy a walk or a ride along the seafront. This hub of civic life, awarded the FAD prize for exterior architecture, has made the coast accessible while conserving the ecosystem. The seafront is unique on the Catalan coast, as ensures the protection of the coastal dunes - mobile formations of sand and vegetation. Stone pines were planted to prevent the dunes from shifting and these trees have adapted to the site´s climactic conditions by growing into spectacular shapes.
The dunes are a rich source of characteristic vegetation from the region, including the sea lilly, Thymelaea tinctoria, and sea-holly. A study of these plants shows how they have adapted to this environment and how it determines certain characteristics, such as the whitish colour, which reflects solar radiation, and the deep, extensive roots required to retain water.
Pines with a flavour of the sea and a watercourse with its source in the Garraf
A pine forest, with some 73,500 pine trees, stretches along the whole of the Gavā coast. The forest, which grows in an area sandwiched between the sea and farmland, is the ideal place for relaxing and enjoying the countryside and the facilities and services on offer in the recreational areas. Between the two parts of the sea front built so far is the Canyars watercourse, which runs from the Garraf massif to the Llobregat delta.
