The Ruta del Ferro (Route of Iron)
Walking in the Garraf Negre
From the Rambla de Pompeu Fabra, walk to the end of Carrer de Clara Campoamor and continue along a track without houses, with views of the Delta. Carry on until you come to a forest track by the side of the hill. Take the track into the Ferreres hills, where the Garraf turns black due to the Palaeozoic rock rich in iron minerals, as can be seen by the abandoned mines and the name of the hills (Ferreres, or ironsmiths). The cones from the abundant white pines are a source of food for the large squirrel population.
Two Springs, Two Farms and a Watercourse
At the end of the forest track, cross the Gavā to Begues road with care and take the path that goes to Can Mas (16th century) until you reach a shortcut on the right, next to a large oak, which snakes through the wood to Bruguers. Cross the main road once again and, passing the road that goes to the Fonts de Bruguers restaurant to the right, take a path that slopes down steeply to the Salamandra spring. Follow the path (without losing sight of the red and white path markings) to the east, until you reach a wide forest track. Further along this path to the right is the Ferro spring, whose waters are rich in iron (hence the name). Return to the wide track along a path to the left, which goes to Can Roig. Continue along the path to cross the Sant Llorenį watercourse and on to the Can Tries district, near to the town centre.
