Safe Bathing
The town council places great importance on ensuring the safety of the visitors who each year choose Gavā for their seaside holidays
For this reason, every year it works closely with the Red Cross to put in place a system that ensures the safety of visitors to our beaches. The municipal police also increase their presence during the summer.
1. The Red Cross Service:
- Two lifeguard centres, one in Carrer de Premiā and the other in Carrer de Palafrugell (including first-aid and medical equipment).
- Two observation towers, in Carrer de Premiā and Carrer de Palafrugell
- Two launches
- An amphibious chain, adapted for use with disabled bathers. This is available on request from the Carrer de Premiā centre.
- Personnel: the service manager, two centre heads (professional lifeguards), six lifeguards for the centres and launches (two lifeguards per launch).
2. Municipal Police Service:
- Based in Gavā Mar: Gavā Mar Municipal Services Centre, in Carrer de Tellinaires, 55-58. Telephone no.: +34 93 645 14 32. Opening times: Monday to Sunday, 09.00 to 20.00.
- Personnel: nine police officers who patrol three areas: the beach, on foot (together with the Red Cross); the sea front and the pine forest, by bicycle; and the streets of Gavā Mar, by motorbike.
